- We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being.

Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma
For 75 years, Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma has worked to make sure all people have the information and means to decide freely and responsibly whether and when to have children.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma works to prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion. Decisions about child bearing should be made by a woman, in consultation with her family, her doctor, and her conscience, not the government or politicians.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma gives women, men and families information and counseling to make reproductive choices. Family planning enables responsible decision-making and creates health families.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma believes emergency is the best way to prevent unintended pregnancy in cases of rape, incest, or contraceptive failure. All women should have access to emergency contraception.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma believes contraceptive equity provides women with critical access to birth control they might not otherwise be able to afford. Contraception prevents unintended pregnancies and reduces the need for abortion.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma believes sex education programs should teach medically-accurate, age-appropriate information. Only medically-accurate sex education allows for responsible decision-making and disease prevention.
Our Past, Present and Future
In mid 1930s, a handful of Oklahoma City’s civic leaders (including Edith Gaylord Harper) dared to imagine a world where every child is a wanted child and every parent a caring parent. Together, they had a vision of what women’s health care could – and should – be like in this community. On June 11, 1937, their vision became a reality when Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma (PPCO), first named the Maternal Health Center of Oklahoma City, officially opened its doors in downtown Oklahoma City. By the close of the first day of business, three women had been seen in the clinic for family planning services, and at the end of its second year of operation, 985 women were patients.
Today, more than 8,400 men and women depend on Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma annually for high-quality, low-cost reproductive health services. In 2005, an additional 8,325 men, women, and teenagers participated in 112 educational programs and professional workshops conducted by Planned Parenthood, as well as 28 outreach events in which PPCO was represented.
Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma is one of 122 affiliates nationwide of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America®, which together provide family planning, reproductive health care and other services to over 2.3 million Americans. Your local Planned Parenthood is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business and civic leaders from communities across central and western Oklahoma. Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma receives no Federal funding. Patient fees, private contributions and sales of educational materials provide the majority of its $1.6 million operating budget.
